Woohoo! Welcome to the reveal of my bright and cheerful guest room, as part of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling It Home. Before we jump in, make sure to check out all of the amazing featured bloggers and guest bloggers. The reveals I’ve seen so far are incredible. While the five-week challenge often leads to some stress (and tears), the final reveal makes it worth it. Make sure to check out weeks one, two, three, four and five to see the full journey.
And, I have to thank LampsPlus for partnering with me for this makeover (note: you can view my full disclosure here). The lamps in the room bring such fun color to the space. And, I’m still amazed by the difference a modern ceiling fan can make.
Before
The room was pretty plain and a blank canvas when I started. The goal was to banish the brown and beige, bringing in some color and brightening everything up.
After
The above is the view from the hallway, heading into the bedroom. Pretty much the only things that remained in this room were bed frame and the sofa (not that there was much in here to begin with).
Everything was done on a fairly tight budget though. The sheets, duvet and yellow pillow cover are from Target. The Euro shams are Ballard Outlet, and the lumbar pillow cover is Pottery Barn outlet.
The one issue I have with the room is this slip cover. Even after 30-minutes of ironing, it’s still not great. Motivation for me to save my money and get the sofa properly recovered! However, I do love the new pillows (with a few borrowed from our master bedroom). The two pictures above the sofa are actually framed pieces of wrapping paper. I found a pattern I loved on Spoonflower. The frames are Hobby Lobby and were 50% off.
This is the view on the other side of the room. Let’s talk about that dresser for a second. This was my most expensive purchase for the room, but it’s perfect! The pinwheels on the wall were a clearance purchase from Pottery Barn Kids.
The Details
I am in love with the color of these lamps from LampsPlus. And that mirror … it’s good. So good that I kind want two more for our master bedroom. And of course, it wouldn’t be a room in my house without a little touch of milk glass 😉
I wasn’t sure about the nightstand originally, but the Ikea Rast makeover ended up looking really cute. Painted in Naval by Sherwin Williams, I found the cutest blue and white knobs at Hobby Lobby (also 50% off). The bright yellow lamp from LampsPlus is such a fun addition.
A close-up of those knobs …
I mentioned above, but I’m still so shocked at what a difference the ceiling fan made. This one from LampsPlus is modern and sleek. The ceilings appear higher, and I also realized that the old one was really too big for the room. And, while you can’t see it too well, I do have a small vintage headboard behind the bed. It was my grandma’s and needs some height added to it!
My husband said it looked like an updated grandma’s room, a good way. So yea, let’s call it granny chic. That’s a wrap on the Spring 2017 One Room Challenge!

An updated Grandma’s room?! How funny! I love all the colors and your mix of patterns and bright colors. The dressers are just perfect! That mirror – I’ve been checking them out too!! I also love the lamps and may even purchase some. I’ve been looking for some good ones. The room looks bright and lovely and just the perfect spot for a tired guest to relax. Glad the fan n worked out well and that you got the room done.

Great job!! I love the pinwheels, and how smart to find something from PB kids so that it’s more affordable! Your lamps are gorgeous — and I always love an antique dresser.
