Welcome to week two of the Spring 2017 One Room Challenge! Before we jump into updates on my bright and cheerful guest bedroom makeover, make sure to check out all the featured and guests bloggers over at Calling it Home! For those of you who aren’t familiar, the One Room Challenge is an online 6-week makeover challenge. The transformations are pretty amazing and it’s fun to follow along with the makeovers.
This time, I’m updating our second guest bedroom. Last week, I shared the plan for the space and some of the before images. The overall goal is to take the space from blah and boring to bright and cheerful. While there aren’t a ton of updates to share this week, I did want to share the to-do list I’ll be tackling the next few weeks, along with a preview of the fabrics. I also did a quick update to the outlets that I’ll share. No electrical knowledge needed!
A huge thank you to Lamps Plus for partnering with me for this makeover. The electrician is scheduled so you’ll see lighting updates next week 🙂
Fabrics
The Euro shams in the background are from Ballard’s Outlet, and are a very light mint. The yellow pillow cover is a Target clearance find from my mom, and the Ikat navy and aqua pillow cover is from Pottery Barn Outlet.
Easy Outlet Update
We’ve slowly been working our way through the house updating outlets and light switches, including the guest room. All of ours were old and dingy, and it’s amazing what a difference this small change can make.
While we brought in an electrician to change out the ones that were loose or damaged, a lot of the others just needed a color change. Instead of spending extra money to swap out the full outlet, I found these outlet covers a Lowe’s.
They go over the full outlet, with one screw. A few minutes later, you have a pretty, clean, white outlet!
Guest Room To-Do List
And finally, below is my to-do list for the next four weeks:
- Paint room
- Schedule electrician (Done!)
- Update outlets (in progress)
- Purchase bedding, pillows, slip cover and bed skirt (Done!)
- Find dresser, headboard and nightstand; paint/update if needed
- Replace dog-eaten blinds
- Fix cushions on sofa
- Possibly paint the closet & closet ceiling
- Figure out wall decor (in process)
- Hang mirrors, wall decor
I know the list doesn’t seem too long, but with a busy April schedule, it’s time to find time and get it done!

“Replace dog eaten blinds”.. ha ha!! The light switches look so much brighter with the new ones and how easy were they to put on too!! While you may not have gotten much done in the room itself, I think purchasing and scheduling are a big part and relieves some stress. I have been ordering items – and that usually takes a while to search around for the correct ones. So it’s good that you have them done.

That’s such a simple and quick change! I love that!
Goodluck with your to-do list! I feel you on that as I have a pretty long one myself with my own room-update! Here’s to kicking this weeks butt (and the rest of your 3 weeks)
xx

Ummmm that is super cool! I haven’t seen those. How much did they cost?
Loveland Lodge says
The ones at my Lowes are $2.67 a piece – I cleaned them out yesterday and bought 6!

What a difference some new outlet covers make! You have your work cut out for you but what fun would the one room challenge be without all that work 😉 Excited to follow along!
Loveland Lodge says
Agreed! Lots to do, but I can finally see it starting to come together!

I’ve never seen those outlet covers, but they are brilliant!
Loveland Lodge says
They may be my favorite thing in the room 😉
