Welcome to the ORC Spring 2017 edition at Loveland Lodge! I kind of can’t believe it’s starting this week. It feels like yesterday I was scrambling to get the laundry room done (shout out to the Hubs on that one!). For those of you who aren’t familiar, the One Room Challenge, hosting by Calling it Home, is a six-week room makeover that tons of bloggers participate in. You can view all of the featured bloggers and guest participants, and follow along with the progress each week.
This will be my third ORC, after completing the guest room/office last spring and the previously mentioned laundry room/hallway. This time, I’m tackling our second guest bedroom. It’s a slightly smaller version of the other guest room, but needs some major help. It’s a very sad room right now. So sad that I’m slightly embarrassed to show you the before pictures. Just means that the after will be even better, right?
Let’s dig in …
Before
When we moved in, we did a fresh coat of paint on the walls in the existing color, tossed some bedding on and called it a day. The room did have an Alabama Crimson Tide mural on the wall that we primed and painted over. I actually wanted to keep it (Roll Tide!), but my Gamecocks husband asked for it to be removed. Marriage is all about compromises, right?
On the other side of the room is a vintage sofa. I love this piece, and though the room is small, the sofa is staying. Right now, there’s not another spot in our house for it and it’s one of those things that I can’t part with (it was my grandma’s and I’ve had it since I was 13).
Opposite the bed is the entry (out of view on the left), and a closet on the right. This wall will get a dresser. The chest you see in the picture is my husband’s new nightstand.
As far as ceiling fans go, this one isn’t horrible. Except that it does have glow-in-the-dark stars stuck all over it … I’m super excited to upgrade this bad boy. I can’t wait to see the new ceiling fan in here!
The Plan
Now on to the pretty! My goal for this room is to make it bright and cheerful. I’ve slowly been creating a whole house color palette, so you’ll see some colors repeated in other rooms, along with some pops of pink and yellow.
Truth is, we have a lot going on in April so I want to make sure this room makeover is doable. I’ve been hoarding items for the past few weeks so I am ready to roll on a lot of this! The biggest item missing right now is a dresser, so that is a top priority. This week, I’m hoping to clear the room out, schedule the electrician and maybe start painting.
A huge thank you to Lamps Plus for partnering with me for this makeover and serving as a sponsor for the One Room Challenge. All of the lighting in the mood board above are Lamps Plus, and I think they’ll look fantastic in the space.

You always do a fabulous job, Jenn. I think the guest room will love just as lovely as the other ones you’ve done. About the sofa, I know – some things you just have to keep even if you are doing a makeover.

Thank you, Zan! I’m finally starting to see how it will come together!

Replacing the fan can make such a difference, and this is going to be an awesome update!

Totally agree – I may be a little too excited about a new ceiling (what would my early 20-something self think about that? 😉
