Whew, summer is flying by and the books are closed on July 2016! It’s hard to believe that so many kids start back to school this week and next around Atlanta. And doubly crazy because I have several friends whose eldest babies are entering kindergarten. I’m not even sure how that’s possible.
One thing remains – it has been a very hot and humid summer this year. Yea, I know – it’s Georgia so it’s always hot & humid in the summer, but there was very little rain in June and July. During the past week or so, more afternoon showers popped up, which is helping. My front door plants from my pretty 4th of July post died. They got water-logged, but it happens. The rest are doing fairly well in the summer heat! Here are some other updates from the month:
Master Bedroom:
I made some progress on the master bedroom, purchasing a new duvet from Pottery Barn. The gallery wall is framed and now needs to be hung. I used some pictures from our May Charleston trip (posts to come!).
I also picked up some pretty blue & white, and a LuRay pastel platter for my nightstand. My mom owns a bunch of LuRay, once belonging to my grandma so it has a special place in my heart. I’m on the hunt for a new nightstand for the hubby’s side of the bed, and hoping to bring a vanity from my parents’ house down for my side this month.
Kitchen:
I finally did it! Over the weekend, I bit the bullet and painted the kitchen a much lighter shade. It’s Woodrow Wilson Putty, a light greige. Below is a quick preview – I still need to hang everything back up, but it’s so much better. Now though, I want to repaint the dining & living rooms too …. it never ends.
Outside:
Earlier this summer, the exterior received a fresh coat of paint. We met with a landscape designer over the weekend to discuss possible options for the front of the house. This will be a multi-year project, but I’ll be sharing a few more details later this week. While I know it will take time to come together, it’s really fun to think about the possibilities for our yard. We have a huge lot (right at or a little over a 1/3 acre, which is crazy for an in-town neighborhood), but most of it is sloped and under-utilized right now. She also has some great ideas on how we can get people to see we actually have a front door (more details on that story here).
Lots more little updates being made too. I bought some fabric to update the pillows in the living room, and now just need break out the sewing machine! I’m also planning to finally share some recaps of our trip to Charleston, plus a recap of a girls’ weekend in Asheville.
Happy (hot) August!
