We’re continuing to make progress in my mom’s master bedroom. I hope to share the full before and after soon! In the meantime, we’ve been focusing on accessories and fabrics for the room. In the last update, I shared how we updated my parents’ 1970s furniture with chalk paint and a little Bar Keeper’s Magic.
Drapery & Lamps
After looking at numerous different options for drapes, we decided to go with a fabulous floral print from World Market. The green picks up on the beautiful mid-century green and gold glass lamps, and the blue brings in another color to use in the room. For the hardware, I really wanted to do acrylic and brass rods, but it turned out to be cost prohibitive. Instead, we used brass rods and brackets from Country Curtains, and purchased some glass finials. These are really heavy duty rods, so if you use them, be sure to use anchors and center brackets. Unfortunately, the smaller rods we ordered only came with two brackets, but really should have three. We purchased one more separately and it still needs to be added.
The lamps are double gourd lamps from Target and they look great! For the price, these really are a great value. I believe my mom picked up the tray from the Grandin Road outlet and everything else she had on hand.
Pillows & Bedding
The duvet cover is from Target as well and it’s a steal for $30 (I couldn’t find the exact one we bought online, but I think this one is similar). It’s really similar to the one I was looking at from Crate & Barrel, but lighter. You can’t really tell in the picture, but it has some nice texture to it. Lightning up the bedding really makes the room brighter since they kept the existing headboard and bed frame. The pillows are from (where else?) Target. While I personally love to pile the pillows on, we tried to not annoy my dad too much and only went with three ;). The bigger ones have a metallic thread which plays nicely off the lamp shades above.
Accessories
To corral the remotes, we bought two of these gold candle holders/vases on clearance. The surface area on the nightstand is pretty small so this is a great way to keep track of remote controls. We also bought some baskets (not pictured) to go under the nightstand to hold additional knickknacks and all the things that end up on nightstands.
Up next is adding a throw, mirrors on the wall, end of bed bench and finishing up the little touches! Full reveal coming soon …
