Hi and welcome to week four of the One Room Challenge! Before diving in, make sure to check out all of the fabulous featured and guest bloggers over at OneRoomChallenge.com.
If you’re new, welcome! I’m currently making over our former cave into a proper home office for my husband. You can catch-up on my other updates below:
Progress!
The last two weeks have been tough. I was a little under the weather so finding the motivation to work on the room was just not there. I did manage to finish painting the TV stand and a small table (which became its own challenge).

I also started toying around with wall decor to see what can go where. With the pitch of the roof, wall decor can be a little challenging, but I think I have some ideas. Once the lights are hung, I’ll start getting the other decor on the walls. I unboxed one of the lights last night and I’m in love. These look so much higher end than they are (they seem to go in and out of stock at Target, so keep checking if you want them!).
I started toying around with styling the display cabinet as well. My husband owns quite a few golf mementos so I’m trying to figure out ways to highlight those, while also making sure it doesn’t look too cluttered with small items. I’m finding that shadow boxes and grouping similar items (like golf balls) together are great ways to pull multiple smaller items together. I used these little plastic holders for the golf balls.
Challenges
While there is some progress, I ran into three main challenges this week:
- Electrical: I was aiming to save some dough and use the same trick I used in last spring’s ORC to update the outlet covers. Unfortunately, these outlets are not in nearly as good of shape and really need to be replaced. I didn’t budget for that so trying to figure out how to address that issue.
- Table and Lamp: I mentioned above I finished painting a small table. The table looks great, but I’m not loving the placement with the lamp. My original idea was to put it in this corner, but it’s a small room. With the basket and pouf I ordered last week, it’s just starting to look too cluttered. I ordered a new lamp from Target today that’s a floor lamp – hoping that a more streamlined designed element is what this corner needs.
- Flooring: This is the biggest challenge. The two quotes I received to re-do the floors are both higher than I originally estimated. I’m waiting on a third estimate and then we’ll make a final decision. Time is now starting to become an issue though so hoping we can still get it done before the reveal on May 10! Here are two of the color options we’re considering. Which ones do you like better?
So, yup lots left to do! My goal this weekend to get everything hung on the walls, or at least plan out where everything will go. I’d love to start styling while we’re waiting on the floors, but I’ll have to take it all down to move it so we shall see.
