It’s week 2 of the One Room Challenge and the Man Cave Makeover. Before we dive in, make sure to visit all of the great featured and guest bloggers at oneroomchallenge.com. There’s already so much inspiration and I’m loving following along. Now, let’s get to it.
Office Design Plan
Last week, I shared some inspiration photos along with the current state of the former man cave. This week, I’m sharing the design plan. along with the progress so far. After looking at the design inspiration, I created the below mood board to help guide me a bit.

Overall, I’m planning to keep the room fairly neutral, with sage green as an accent color. My husband is an avid golfer so I’m hoping to bring that in, but without making it too “themey.” I’m also toying with the idea of painting the white Ikea storage unit. Still trying to figure out the balance of furniture and make sure it looks pulled together. The chair we bought features chrome accents, so I’ll probably be adding some more chrome or polished nickel accents too.
To-Do List
- Replace floors
- Paint walls & trim
- Buy & stain desk
- Purchase office furniture (chair/storage unit)
- Hang lights/buy lamp
- Paint TV stand
- Hang art/wall decor
- Replace curtains
- Find other accessories – pouf/ottoman?
- Paint storage unit to match TV stand?
Current Progress
So far, we’re on track. We painted the room from a charcoal color to Eider White by Sherwin Williams. The room is so much brighter now! We both really liked the charcoal walls – it’s a great color for making a room cozy. But, for a room that he’s going to be spending a lot of time in, we wanted to bring in more natural light.
We also have most of the furniture delivered. The desk is a dining room table from Ikea (this one) and I painted and stained it last weekend. The office chair is this one from Amazon, and is surprisingly comfortable. As you can see, the storage unit is assembled and ready to go. We also have the lights (from Target) and are aiming to hang those this weekend.
The biggest project is the floors. We’re planning to remove the carpet and replace with luxury vinyl plank. The cheapest option is to purchase the materials and DIY, but that may be beyond our skill level. I’m currently working to get a few estimates, but this is the biggest item to finalize.
Lots left to do, but making progress!
