Welcome to week two of the One Room Challenge! The One Room Challenge, hosted by Calling it Home, is where bloggers take on a home design project from start to finish in six weeks, sharing updates along the way. Be sure to read this week’s update from the featured designers and then make sure to hop over and check out the 200+ guest participants.
If you missed last week’s kickoff, you can read my plans for our modern farmhouse laundry room and entry way here. Last week, I shared my inspiration and outlined the path I planned to take. While I wish I had better pictures to show you this week, progress is being bed – it’s not pretty yet, though!
To-Do List
The main goals for last week included:
- Remove wire shelves
- Choose paint color
- Figure out what cabinets to use (existing or new)
(P.S. Sorry for the not great photos that follow. It’s been a crazy week this week and I didn’t have a chance to take pics with great natural light or edit heavily. But that’s what room makeovers are all about right?)
I achieved two out of three – and added a few more that weren’t originally on the list. First up, the wire shelves are no more! My sweet husband took them out while I was at work as surprise. Now, we have a clean slate to work with. I did not end up choosing the paint color … but I have the samples and that’s a start!
We also decided that we can use the extra cabinet leftover from the bathroom renovation rather than buy new. While that will save us money, I now have cabinet painting on my to-do list.
I also ordered a rug for the hall (taking advantage of the Rugs USA Columbus Day sale), along with a rug pad. New flooring from Home Depot is also on the way!
Lighting
The big thing that happened last week are the new lighting fixtures! The electrician replaced the old hallway light, laundry light, and the switch in the laundry room. They look fantastic! Ideally, the ceiling in the laundry room would’ve been painted first, but when the electrician had an opening, I went for it.
The downside is that in the hallway, I now need to go back and paint around the base since it’s smaller than the old light.
At the end of Week 2, there’s still a ton to do, but things are moving along!
