Welcome to week three of the Spring ORC! I’m updating our second guest bedroom. The plan is to take it from drab to fab! Or blerg to amazing! Or blah to wow! You get the idea. To get up to speed, check out my first two updates here and here. And for those of who are new to the ORC, it’s a 6-week room makeover challenge hosted by Linda at Calling it Home. Twenty featured bloggers participate, along with hundreds of guest bloggers. Thank you to LampsPlus who partnered with me for this makeover!
This week’s update will be short and sweet. Really, there are two main updates to share: lighting and a new dresser!
Lighting
The electrician came on Wednesday morning and replaced the old ceiling fan with the pretty new one. I love the LED light in this! It’s also a much better scale for the room, at 44 inches wide. The hugger fan from LampsPlus is definitely the way to go as it makes the ceiling look so much taller! As a reminder, here’s what it looked like before:
The switch is also updated to white, and the fan comes with a nifty remote.
Dresser
This past weekend, I finally bought a dresser for the room. I spotted this week a few weeks ago on a local Facebook exchange group, but it was a little more than I wanted to pay. Well, when it popped up again a few weeks later, I bit the bullet and bought it. It’s so pretty! In the online pictures, the hardware looked more silver, but it’s definitely brass. I love the little details. It’s going to look so good with this round mirror from Target. And you can see a preview of the lamps from LampsPlus too. Love love that pretty aqua color.
To do List
So what’s left to do? A lot. This will be the first weekend since we kicked off that we don’t have a ton going on so I’m hoping to spend some time in here! Paint is the priority, along with removing the old bedding, slip covers and blinds. A quick reminder of the list and plan below.
- Paint room
- Schedule electrician (Done!)
- Update outlets (in progress)
- Purchase bedding, pillows, slip cover and bed skirt (Done!)
- Find dresser, headboard and nightstand; paint/update if needed (dresser – done; still need to find a nightstand)
- Replace dog-eaten blinds
- Fix cushions on sofa
- Possibly paint the closet & closet ceiling
- Figure out wall decor (in process)
- Hang mirrors, wall decor

Thank you! Ultimately, the details are what made me had to have it!

I love the lamps from Lamps Plus – so many pretty colors. I was just out looking for lamps for our Family room so happy to see these lovelies!!! Also, the new fan looks like it has less going on and a bit more modern. It’s nice that you finally find a good dresser for the room and that mirror from Target – I’ve been checking it out every time I walk into Target (including today) but I don’t have need for one.. Haha!!

Thank you Zan! The lamps are so pretty in person. I highly recommend the mirror if you can find a place for it!
