Hi all! Welcome to the One Room Challenge, where hundreds of bloggers makeover a room in six (short) weeks. Thank you to Linda from Calling it Home for hosting. Each Thursday, I’ll be sharing an update on our room makeover (along with hundreds of participants!) and the featured bloggers will be sharing their updates on Wednesdays.
One Room Challenge at Loveland Lodge
This will be my fourth ORC. You can see the other makeovers here, here and here. I will admit, last spring about did me in, and taking the fall off was the right decision. Plus, as crazy as it is to say, we celebrate four years in our house this month. That also means the rooms to makeover are becoming fewer and fewer! But, I’m back and super excited about this challenge. So without further delay, the room I’ll be making over is ….
Man Cave into Home Office
My husband’s man cave! We are turning his current man cave into a proper home office (with a little bit of man cave thrown in). He recently started at a new job and he’s working from home one to two days per week, if not more. This means that he really needs a dedicated space that feels separate from the house. No more working from the dining room table, or even from our guest bedroom/home office (plus, that’s my desk when I work from home ;). The pics below aren’t great – they are from my very first home tour before I knew how to use a camera. But, they give you an idea of what we’re working with.
In the spirit of The Bachelor, this will be my most dramatic makeover yet! Other than two pieces of furniture and the TV, the rest of the man cave was sold to the highest bidder. We’re pretty much starting from scratch on this one. Plus there are some unique challenges – like the fact that the room is at the top of a spiral staircase. This makes it very tricky to load in furniture. We basically have to buy things that can be carried up piece by piece and then we assemble in the room.
Make sure to check out my stories on Instagram for a tour of the room and the progress we’ve made so far. I’ll be sharing lots of updates on Instagram if you want to check-in daily!
Inspiration
I started my search on Pinterest to see what I could find (check out my Future Makeovers Pinterest board to see more inspiration pics). The office is a finished attic, so keep in mind, the ceilings slope. After looking at finished attics, I started to think about vibe and colors. I found a stunning office from Studio McGee that immediately caught my eye. It feels masculine, but not too masculine.
I ran it past my client (husband) and while he liked the vibe, he wasn’t sold on the navy blue. You see, I love navy. And there is A LOT of it in our house. Our house isn’t huge so it’s nice to have a whole house color palette that ties each room together. But, knowing that this needs to be his space, I’m willing to compromise. After scrolling on Instagram, Remodelaholic posted the below pic and I immediately took a screenshot. Yes! Sage green as an accent would be perfect.
I also spotted this kitchen and loved the mix of metals along with the green and wood tones, via Better Homes and Gardens.
Hopefully, you can start to see where I’m headed with this one. Next week, I’ll share the full design plan, some of the unique challenges and our to-do list.
