Welcome to the Spring 2019 One Room Challenge! If you’re not familiar with the One Room Challenge (ORC), it’s a 6-week room makeover challenge in which both featured and hundreds of guest bloggers and instagrammers participate. Make sure to visit the One Room Challenge link up to view everyone’s week one updates.
This is my 5th time participating (you can see previous makeovers of the guest room, laundry room, home office and another guest room). And my first blog post since November! Based on the title of this post, you can probably guess which room I’ll be doing – and the reason for the lack of posting. I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant and my first trimester, and part of my
Nursery Makeover
For this ORC, I’ll be turning an existing guestroom into a nursery. The last time you saw this room was when I revealed it two years ago in the Spring 2017 ORC.
Of course, the easy thing to do is to keep the existing color scheme and just swap out the bed for a crib. But … two years later and I’m ready for a change. And since we aren’t finding out the gender, I thought this was the perfect time to do something a little different.
The past few weeks were spent clearing out this room as much as possible. As of Sunday morning, the room looked like this:
After this photo, we took a bunch of the linens to Goodwill and moved the rug from this room to our master bedroom. By afternoon, the room looked like this:
So what’s staying? The
The sofa is being recovered and the upholsterers come next week to pick it up. I’m very excited about giving this beauty a new life! Am I crazy for putting a vintage sofa in a nursery? Maybe. But I love this sofa and I have nowhere else to put it, at least for now. I am using performance fabric to recover it so it should hold up to wear and tear. It did survive many a party in my apartments in my 20s, so I think it’ll be fine.
To-do List
Besides the sofa, what else is on the to do list?
- New rug/rug pad
- Crib, crib skirt, sheets, etc.
- Curtains/curtain rods
- Wall art
- Shelves
- Lighting (sconces? table lamp? floor lamp?)
- Rocking chair
- Pillow covers for throw pillows
- Touch up paint
Next week, I’ll share more about the plan and will hopefully have the new rug down since the sofa will be getting its makeover started.
