Looking back at photos, I realize I have a thing for plaid. My love of plaid is not only Christmas decor. If you look in my closet, you’re likely to find several (a lot) of plaid shirts. In the spirit of celebrating plaid, and the fact that Christmas season is almost here, I wanted to share some of my favorite plaid Christmas decor.

Tablecloths & Table Runners
Last year, I used a traditional red and green plaid tablecloth for Christmas. It definitely made an impact and brought some Christmas cheer to the dining room.
If you don’t want something quite as bold, a great neutral plaid table runner is a great way to add a touch of plaid. I bought a taupe and white one from HomeGoods a few years ago (similar here on Amazon), and use it frequently. Last year, it was on the buffet, but I also used the table runner for a late summer tablescape.
For an even softer touch of plaid, I love this red and tan runner from World Market. Subtle, but still festive.
Napkins & Placemats
You’ve likely seen the gorgeous new Hearth & Hand line by Joanna & Chip Gaines at Target. If you’re looking for plaid you can use year-round, the black and white placemats are perfect (also in black and green).
One of my Christmas purchases for this year are these plaid napkins from the Threshold Target line. I like that they are little less heavy, with the white base. I’m planning to pair them with this striped table runner from World Market.
Dinnerware & Coffee Mugs
Plaid isn’t just for fabric. There’s tons of cute dinnerware out there with plaid. I picked up these salad plates from At Home last year and used them in the kitchen.
These Mud Pie red tartan chargers would look great with white dishes, or mixed with other Christmas plates. Ever wonder what the difference is between plaid and tartan? Here’s an article that explains the difference.
Lenox also makes some really pretty patterns. I like the vintage plaid as an alternative to some of the other Christmas China out there.
Ornaments & Stockings
There are some really cute plaid Christmas tree ornaments out there. While I don’t do a theme tree downstairs, if I did, you can bet it would be plaid. I love these little houses and owls from World Market.
There are a ton of plaid options out there for stockings. I love these from Target, and these from Pottery Barn. And of course, if you want even more plaid, you can put a plaid bow on just about anything … as evidenced by my Christmas decor last year.
Where else do you use plaid in your Christmas decor? A cute pillow? Your tree skirt? So many options!
