I grew up in a golfing family, and of course also ended up marrying a golfer, so any time this time of year comes around, it can only mean one thing: Masters. When the azaleas start blooming, the kickoff to Masters week is always right around the corner. And while I don’t love watching every single golf tournament on TV, I do love watching the Masters. To get into the spirit, I made a quick sign to on our grapevine wreath for this week.
I bought this arrow from Target a few months ago, and was going to make a Spring sign for the front door, but thought I’d do something more fun instead. I started off by painting the arrow with some green craft paint (the same green I used on our St. Patrick’s Day Wreath).
To make the Masters wording, I traced the logo from an old program we had on hand onto a piece of paper.
I then re-traced the lines onto the wood, making an indention. It’s a little hard to see in the photos, but the line was just deep enough that I could then use a paint pen to trace the letters.
A few turned out a little too thick, but overall I love the look of it! I free-handed the flag with a silver paint pen, a little more white, and some red craft paint. I stopped short of trying to trace the U.S. map that’s on the real Masters logo, but you still know exactly what it is even without the yellow map.
I sprayed two coats of acrylic coating for protection, since ours will be outside. I used some floral wire through the staple on the back of the arrow to secure it to the wreath.
I also bought some pretty peach blossom faux flowers from Michael’s and stuck a few in to bring a more spring-like feel. I originally was going to add yellow ribbon, but I couldn’t find any I liked, so stuck to the existing burlap.
I’m looking forward to pimento cheese sandwiches and egg salad this weekend!
