I suppose this post could be called “Early Fall,” but since I took these pictures in August, we’ll go with “Late Summer Kitchen” instead. While the kitchen doesn’t change too much from day-to-day, it’s been awhile since I shared some updates.
New Paint Color
The biggest change is a new paint color on the walls – Woodrow Wilson Putty by Valspar. After a series of samples and errors, this was the eventual color I chose to lighten up the kitchen. I’m not sure where the Woodrow Wilson comes from, but the color is definitely putty. One slight problem – while I love it in 90% of the room, there is one wall where it reads a little creamier than I want. So we’ll see if it stays … In the interim, the light paint color really brightens up the space.
Fiddle Fig Plant
The newest addition to the kitchen, besides the paint color, is a small fiddle fig plant (picked up at Pike’s Nursery). So far, so good. The planter is from Target and I love the texture it adds to the space. At first, Mr. Fiddle lived in the living room by one of the sliding doors. But I kept forgetting to open the curtains so it wasn’t receiving enough natural light. I moved him to the kitchen and open the blinds above the sink each day and it seems to be working. I use about a 1/2 cup of water twice per week. When the leaves start to droop, I use a tooth pick to check how damp soil is. If it comes out clean, I add a 1/2 c. of water.
Table Setting
I don’t often set the island seats, but the placemats are from Ikea. The big bowl was a wedding gift and it’s gorgeous. I filled it with various (faux) fruit on hand, to bring out more of the green and yellows, and complement the dining room late summer decor. On the range, I added new navy and white dish towels (Homegoods) that will likely stay through fall.
With that, I guess it’s time to say goodbye to Summer 2016! I think the pumpkins and pine cones are ready to come out … and boots, definitely boots.
