After restyling the mantle as part of my after-Christmas refresh, it was still feeling like something was missing. With the wreath, the frames were too much and were moved around to other parts of the living room, but I was still looking for something to flank either side of the mirror and decided that candlesticks would be the answer. I found some great candlesticks at Hobby Lobby and came close to buying them, but changed my mind at the last minute. The next week, I had some time to visit some of my favorite flea markets and antique stores and was on the hunt for some candle sticks for the mantle.
As luck would have it, I found two great pairs of candlesticks – the first were chunkier with some great detailing. The second pair was brass candlesticks for $6.50. I bought both knowing I could use the others somewhere else – plus, I wasn’t exactly sure what I needed so I liked the idea of having some options.
After playing around a bit and asking my husband’s thoughts, I decided that the chunkier candle sticks were perfect for the mantle, and I’d use the brass candle sticks to flank the TV. I had really liked the took of the TV during Christmas and wanted to replicated that, but without the Christmas vibe.
The chunkier candle sticks weren’t quite the right color so I decided to give them a quick makeover with some Annie Sloan chalk paint. I had recently bought a sample of French Linen and Napoleonic Blue and thought this would be a great test of my new colors. I did two coats of French Linen on the candle sticks and am loving the look! I still need to wax, but the grayish paint really brings out the great detail on these. More to come on the makeover for the brass candlesticks!

My two favorites are My Friend’s Place on Peachtree Blvd. and Simple Finds on the corner of Chamblee Dunwoody and Peachtree Blvd. My Friend’s Place is more like a true Flea Market (lots to dig through) – Simple Finds, the prices can be higher, but it’s a little more organized and easier to browse and they have consignment furniture as well.

Thank you! The mantle has definitely evolved from when we first moved in and I threw whatever I had around the house up there! So appreciate you hosting such a fun link party!
