Design Dilemma: Choosing an Accent Chair

When I shared the living room refresh a few months ago, you saw the brown leather accent chairs that flank either side of the TV. I know that I want to replace them with a new accent chair, but I can’t make a decision on which direction I want to go. Initially, when I shared accent chairs under $252, I thought I’d go with one of those options.

Since I can’t seem to make a decision, I thought it’d be fun to do an “Ask the Audience” poll. Plus, I really wanted to create a GIF and test my extremely crude editing skills (spoiler: they aren’t great). Before we jump in, a few things to keep in mind:

• The current chairs are a little on the small side – I’d like something I can curl up in and read a book
• We have two dogs – pet-friendly is important
• Options 2, 3 and 4 can all come in any one of the three fabrics (beige, navy ticking, solid navy)

Here below is the main reason the chairs need to be replaced. I took a quick snap of the huge hole in one of the chairs. A pillow and blanket normally hide the hole.

Option 1

I like the option of leather but in a much lighter chestnut color. Easy to keep clean and we have a lot of upholstery in the room so it might be nice to mix up the texture. (Keep in mind that with all of these, I’d likely switch out the current coffee table too).

Option 2

I love a ticking stripe and I don’t have much in our house. I also really like the curved arms of this chair that balance all the squares/rectangles we have going on in the room. I think it’s a small enough pattern that it won’t compete with the larger stripe on the curtain or the rug.

Option 3

This one is similar to the above, but a little deeper and has open feet (rather than skirted). Our sofas are both a putty/oatmeal color, so I worry that another neutral may clash.

Option 4

Initially, I was all about a solid navy. But, with the navy curtains in place, is that too much solid navy in the corner? Or if I add a pattern pillow to the chair, does that break it up enough?
