The autumn kitchen is the last stop on my informal fall home tour – you can view the living room and table setting in previous posts. I didn’t do too much, but I really wanted to use the really cute fall plates a friend gave me last year. The little owls are too adorable to sit in the cabinet all season.
Kitchen Island
For the place settings, I used the the plates I mentioned (I think they are World Market from 2015), along with my favorite red napkins from Crate & Barrel. I don’t set the island on a daily basis, but it was fun to do. If you have an island, do you keep place settings on it? I find that ours gets too cluttered with stuff on a daily basis to keep it looking nice all the time. I do try to keep the dining room table free for eating though.
The white rustic crate is one of my first DIY blog projects. It usually holds napkins and and our salt and pepper shakers. I added a few fresh apples, along with some fresh eucalyptus to create a super easy centerpiece. And then the hubs and I ate the apples for breakfast that week. I love useful decor 😉
Chalk Board
It took me more tries than I’d like to admit, but I finally got my chalk art right. I referenced this tutorial from Bless’er House. I used some chalk pencils from Hobby Lobby which helped to draw smaller lines as one of the main challenges was tracing the font once it was transferred. Two more tricks if you try the same method:
- Print out your words bigger than you think they need to be. I ended up printing each word on a separate 8×10 piece of paper to get them the right size. Everything looked so much smaller once it was transferred than it did when initially printed.
- For me, the script fonts worked best for this trick. The block fonts weren’t as easy for whatever reason (likely because I can’t draw a straight line to save my life!)
Bar Tray
In the dining room, I added a glass cake stand to my galvanized metal tray, along with some decorative gourds. I love the copper accents from the Moscow Mule mugs. My fall football drink of choice is a Georgia Mule (or Kentucky Mule) which is ginger beer mixed with bourbon.
And that wraps it up for fall 2016! Does it finally feel like fall where you are?
